Frequently Asked Questions

What is ONX LiDAR?

ONX is a true solid state LiDAR sensor designed to provide reliable 3D perception without moving parts. It is built for applications that need accurate object detection, full scene coverage, and dependable sensing in real world environments.

What is it used for?

Applications that require precise 3D sensing, object detection, environment perception, and scene understanding — including mobility, automation, infrastructure monitoring, industrial systems, robotics, and intelligent sensing.

What makes it a true solid state LiDAR?

There are no moving parts. This design helps improve reliability, durability, and long term performance compared to scanning systems that depend on mechanical movement.

How far can it detect objects?

Objects can be detected up to 140 meters away, while objects only a few centimeters from the sensor can still be measured — capturing both near field and longer range information within the same sensing system.

Can it detect dark objects near reflective surfaces?

Yes. Advanced reflector handling detects low reflective objects even when they are close to highly reflective materials such as traffic signs, license plates, cones, trucks, safety vests, or other shiny surfaces.

Why is reflector handling important?

It reduces interference from bright or reflective surfaces and supports cleaner, more accurate 3D data — important in real environments where dark objects and reflective objects often appear in the same scene.

Does it combine LiDAR and camera data?

Yes. LiDAR data can be combined with 2D camera data, working together to provide synchronized depth and visual information so systems understand both distance and visual context.

Does it provide full scene coverage?

Yes. The full field of view is illuminated in each measurement frame, reducing the risk of missing objects between scan lines or laser spots and supporting consistent detection across the scene.

Is it eye safe?

Yes. It is a Class 1 eye safe LiDAR product, designed to operate safely under normal use conditions while still providing reliable scene illumination and object detection.

What is ONX Studio used for?

ONX Studio is the software environment used to visualize, record, store, and replay LiDAR and camera data in real time. It helps teams test, validate, debug, and develop applications using data captured from the sensor.

Can it be used in challenging lighting or reflective environments?

Yes. It is designed to perform in dynamic environments with dark, bright, or challenging conditions; the combination of LiDAR, camera support, and reflector handling improves sensing reliability.

Who should use ONX LiDAR?

Companies and engineering teams that need reliable 3D perception, solid state sensing, synchronized LiDAR and camera data, full scene coverage, and robust object detection for advanced sensing applications.
