Overview

Real 192 beams, not an interpolated equivalent

The EMX is a compact automotive-grade digital LiDAR built for autonomous driving. With 192 physical beams, 2.88 million points per second, a 140° field of view and 300 m detection range, it generates precise point cloud data for reliable long-range 3D perception and object detection.

Resolution, latency and gaze

Detail where it matters, delivered in time to use it

Three properties that decide what the planner receives and when.

Resolution detail produced by the 192 beams of the RoboSense EMX
Resolution

Extensive insight into environmental details

192-beam scanning at 0.08° × 0.10° angular resolution produces a high-definition point cloud of 2.88 million points per second, capturing fine environmental detail throughout the 300 m detection range.

Denser returns mean the planner receives classified objects earlier and with more confidence, which translates directly into faster and more precise intelligent driving decisions.

Comparison of 20 Hz against 10 Hz frame rate showing the latency the RoboSense EMX removes
Latency

20 Hz high frame rate — low latency, quick response

The EMX scans at up to 20 Hz, twice the mainstream industry rate of 10 Hz. Doubling the frame rate halves the response latency of the perception stage.

That matters most in the scenarios where time is scarcest: a high-speed projectile entering the lane, or a vehicle cutting in laterally at close range. A perception system that sees the event 50 ms earlier passes that entire margin to the planner.

Gaze intelligent scanning concentrating RoboSense EMX resolution where the scene demands it
Gaze

Intelligent gaze: six times the horizontal resolution where you need it

Uniform resolution across a 140° field of view spends the same budget on empty sky as on the object you are tracking. The EMX's intelligent “Gaze” function concentrates scanning effort on a region of interest, improving horizontal angular resolution by up to six times within it.

The sensor keeps its wide coverage for situational awareness while giving the tracking stack a dense, high-resolution view of the object that currently matters.

Measured performance

Accurate detection of distant objects

Manufacturer test results, each paired with the speed at which the detection distance still leaves room to act.

Exclusive core technology

All-condition adaptability

The complex scenarios that decide whether an autonomous stack ships or stalls.

High anti-expansion suppression

Prevents highly reflective targets from blooming and inflating their apparent size.

Rain, fog and dust noise reduction

Separates airborne particle returns from genuine attenuated returns.

Contamination and watermark occlusion resistance

Sustains performance through road spray, dirt and drying water marks on the window. Each of these is addressed in the optical design and signal path rather than filtered out downstream, which is why the sensor degrades gracefully instead of failing abruptly.

Digital architecture

The EMX integrates digital SPAD-SoC and VCSEL chips, giving high detection sensitivity while preserving raw information through the signal chain rather than discarding it in analogue conversion. Preserved raw data enables optimal perception fusion: the LiDAR stream can be synchronised temporally and spatially with raw camera data, so fusion happens on genuinely aligned inputs.

Smallest in class

At 120 × 80 × 30 mm the EMX is the smallest digital automotive main LiDAR available, opening integration positions that larger units cannot occupy.

IP6K9K rated

Automotive-grade pressure-jet water resistance — validated for high-pressure wash and road spray exposure. A 140° horizontal field is wider than most main LiDARs, reducing the number of sensors needed to close the frontal arc.
