Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HESAI FT120 LiDAR used for?

The HESAI FT120 is a fully solid state near range blind spot LiDAR designed for ADAS series production vehicles. It is mainly used to cover close range vehicle blind spots during turning, overtaking, lane changes, and autonomous parking.

Why is it suitable for blind spot detection?

A 100° x 75° ultra wide field of view combined with near range perception helps vehicles detect close objects around the body, including pedestrians, traffic cones, railings, crosswalks, small animals, and street signs.

Is it a fully solid state LiDAR?

Yes. There are no moving parts inside, which improves reliability, production efficiency, and consistency for automotive grade mass production.

What is the field of view of the HESAI FT120?

The field of view is 100° horizontal by 75° vertical. Wide vertical and horizontal coverage is important for blind spot perception because close objects may appear low, high, or to the side of the vehicle.

What is the range?

The instrument range is 0.1 m to 100 m, with a maximum detection range of up to 100 m. In typical conditions the sensor provides effective detection of close range objects, including around 22 m at 10 percent reflectivity.

How does it help during turning and overtaking?

It provides close range side perception in scenarios where blind spots are safety critical, such as urban intersections, lane changes, overtaking, and autonomous parking.

Can it detect small objects?

Yes. The sensor is designed to detect rich object details in near range scenes, perceiving objects such as street signs, railings, small animals, traffic cones, crosswalks, and pavement markings in real time.

Where can it be integrated on a vehicle?

It can be embedded on both sides of the vehicle body or around the vehicle, fitting into locations such as the fender, grille, or bumper, with a minimum window size of 70 mm x 50 mm.

How does it work with long range LiDAR sensors?

It complements long range automotive LiDAR by covering near range blind spots, combining forward long distance detection with close range coverage for a more complete vehicle perception system.

When should a team choose the HESAI FT120?

Choose the FT120 when you need a fully solid state, automotive grade, near range LiDAR for blind spot coverage, autonomous parking, turning safety, overtaking scenarios, and small object detection around the vehicle body — most relevant when close range safety perception matters more than long range forward sensing.
